Where to Start ~ Designing with Emotion

As an Interior Designer, my job is to evoke emotion. That’s the easy part, after all, an empty space does that! The tricky part is to match the correct emotion with the client.

Not all people react the same to every space. Most people refer to their “style” or “taste”. But really, they are talking about what makes them feel good.

Take a look at the 3 concepts below. How do they make you feel? These are preliminary color concepts I presented to a client in September. The client was immediately drawn to some and rejected others.

The board above showcases a cooler palette. Some would say it is  cold or tense, others find these refreshing. The others are a mix of color and style.

The final verdict?

Although this part of the design process is one of the most important, it is only the beginning. There are so many more details and decisions to be worked through.

A good start never hurts though!
